St. Andrew’s Road is home to numerous established residential neighborhoods and commercial developments, many of which are aging and in need of revitalization. We are confident in the power of revitalization because we have witnessed the social and economic impact Saluda Shoals Park has already had on the St. Andrews Road Corridor. The park has had a tremendous impact on the local and regional economy and continues to attract increasing numbers of visitors and pass holders due to new soccer/lacrosse fields, tennis courts, and expanded trails and programming.
Before Saluda Shoals Park was a popular destination for athletes competing in weekend tournaments, parts of it were abandoned and unused. In ____ (year) the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission completed a total overhaul of the dilapidated land and transformed it into a social hub for local and traveling athletes and their families. The Park has also contributed to the stabilization of the local economy by drawing tourists to the area year-round.

Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail connects to the small town of Travelers Rest.
As a result, new businesses have opened all along the route to cater to the hundreds of thousands of people who use it every year, with an economic impact of over $7 million a year. Completing the Lower Saluda Greenway will transform the District and create a similar impact on our local community.
